Diarmid studied Pure Mathematics at Imperial college, London, after-which he combined this with his love of computers and became a video games programmer.
Since then he has spent fifteen years as a software developer and technical manager in the video games industry. In this time he has worked on several products that have gone on world-wide release as well as managed teams of up to thirty people. This included a ten-year stint at Sony running a research group creating cutting-edge technology for PlayStation games.
Diarmid now works at the University of Cambridge developing educational games to teach maths and physics to teenagers.
He lives in Cambridge with his wife and two young children and looks forward to the day when he can lie in at the weekend again.
